The year is 1969. On July 20th Astronaut Neil Armstrong just became the first human to set foot on the Moon and uttered the immortal words “That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Over 400 thousand music fans came together on a farm in New York State to participate in what will become the most famous music festival in modern times. Woodstock reflected the signs of the times, with peace symbols, long hair and headbands showing the feelings of anti establishment felt by young people.
And everyone listened to a quartet of young men from Liverpool known as The Beatles.
Here in Oakville, Ontario, gasoline cost around $.42 cents a gallon (Canadian use of the metric system was just around the corner). A house in Toronto cost around $29,000 and the average new car is $3,270.
On March 1st, 1969 Merv Colling and his partner Jack Moed opened Eastside Auto Service on Chartwell Road. They hired skilled and dedicated mechanics, and their two bay service facility began to establish a reputation for quality vehicle care that continues to the present day.
To celebrate our 46 years in business here in Oakville, we decided to remember our roots and have a little fun at the same time. Some things never go out of style. Young people are still listening to The Beatles, but now their grandparents sing along with every song. And great service is always in style here at Eastside Auto Service.
