How long do you think your car will last?

Vehicles

Vehicles are one the biggest investments you can make in your life. When you take pride in taking care of your car - your car will take care of you.

Your car is a part of the family and when you think about it, it can be a significant part of your life in terms of how often you rely on it to power your days. Just as you would take care of your body, showing obvious signs of neglect or abuse can greatly reduce the overall health of your car.

According to Consumer Report, the average age of all cars on the road is more than 11 years, up from about 8 years in 1995. If properly maintained, vehicles can go over 15 years and past 300,000kms.

With that in mind, here are five key areas to be mindful of in order to beat the test of time.

1. Rely on the experts

Remaining diligent with your oil changes and regular lubricant changes will prevent friction from the pistons, valves, and other critical components of the engine when it's moving at high rates of speed. Proactively managing your engine will greatly help to prolong your car's life expectancy.

2. Take care of your brakes

Your car has a variety of liquids pumping through its veins in order to keep it alive and running. When you see a stream on liquid pooling underneath your car, you know that it's the symptom of a much larger issue. It could be coolant, gasoline, oil and brake fluids, automatic transmission fluid, power steering fluid or even windshield washer fluids. You don't want to let this morph into a bigger problem!

3. Nip corrosion in the bud

While you want to prevent corrosion on the metal on your cars' frame, you also want to watch out for the motor, transmission and suspension - these areas will massively reduce the longevity of your car if they get worn out.

4. Watch out for leaks

Your car will actually let you know when you need new brake pads in the form of a high-pitch shriek. If your car pulls to one side when you brake or you notice a reduced time in responsiveness, it's a clear indicator that they're going.

5. Stay on top of your oil changes and lubricants

Having a trusted technician in your corner can make all the different in the world when it comes to maintaining the long-term integrity of your car. When you join Eastside's Loyalty Program, you will receive a customized reminder program to let you know when it's time for an oil change or when scheduled maintenance is due - completely taking the guesswork out of it.
